Alaska DOC's handbook for relatives and friends, updated 2 January 2026, walks through the whole system from booking to release. The mail chapter sets out the three mail categories, warns that mail without a complete return address is destroyed, and lists envelope and paper rules including no non-white envelopes over 9 by 12 inches, no adhesives, stickers or glitter, and no writing in anything other than blue or black ink or pencil. Packages and publications must come from an approved vendor through commissary. Deposits to an Offender Trust Account are capped at $500 a month and may only be made by people on the approved visitor list. The visitation chapter covers the first 24-hour visit available to anyone with photo ID, contact versus secure visits, one-hour visit lengths, the dress code and the grounds for denying a visit.
