The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles explains that parole and pardon hearings are held as open public meetings each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 301 South Ripley Street in Montgomery, with waiting rooms opening at 7:30 a.m. and the meeting starting at 8:00 a.m. The incarcerated person does not attend their own parole hearing; people speaking on their behalf go first, then victims and others opposing release, after which the Board enters executive session, votes, and announces the decision at the end of the hearing. Family members, advocates, attorneys and other interested parties who cannot attend may submit written statements referencing the inmate's name and AIS number by email, mail or phone, and all statements must be received five business days before the hearing date. Video or audio statements are limited to two minutes and must be arranged at least five business days in advance.
