The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Clinical Services page describes the full range of care delivered in the state's prisons from admission through release. Medical Services covers emergency, acute, chronic, routine and preventive care at every facility, with coordination to outside specialists when needed. Inpatient care for patients requiring hospitalization is concentrated at the Central Prison Healthcare Complex for men and the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women Healthcare Complex, which also host specialty clinics in orthopedics, podiatry, nephrology, audiology, ophthalmology, optometry, dermatology, infectious disease and advanced dental specialties. A telehealth program links patients at North Carolina's 54 facilities to practitioners and specialists in real time, supporting medical, psychiatric and substance use treatment. Mental health services include diagnosis and treatment, crisis intervention, outpatient and inpatient care, therapeutic diversion units used in place of restrictive housing, and outpatient telepsychiatry clinics at more than 30 facilities run in partnership with the UNC Chapel Hill Department of Psychiatry. The Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency Programs section offers four levels of substance use treatment including Recovery Road Services.
