California Correctional Health Care Services runs ISUDT, the joint CDCR/CCHCS program combining Medication-Assisted Treatment with Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for people in state prison. Anyone not in the initial target populations can seek treatment by submitting CDCR Form 7362, the Health Care Services Request Form, which is triaged by a Primary Care Registered Nurse. Four FDA-approved medications are offered — buprenorphine/naloxone, naltrexone, methadone and acamprosate — with consent recorded on CDCR Form 7240; buprenorphine is given as directly observed therapy and never as keep-on-person. MAT is available at all 35 institutions and is voluntary, though CBI programming has been mandatory since September 20, 2021. Seven facilities have contracted with a licensed Narcotic Treatment Program to dose methadone on site seven days a week; others transport patients to community providers. Disagreements about SUD care go through the health care grievance process.
